Jesus Was a Surrendered Man
Saturday Mar 15, 2025

Jesus Was a Surrendered Man. In Matthew 3:14 9 (NLT), John the Baptist tried to talk Jesus out of being baptized: “I am the one who needs to be baptized by you,” [John] said, “so why are you coming to me?” (Verse 15): "But Jesus said, 'It should be done, for we must carry out all that God requires.' So John agreed to baptize him." If there had been no baptism, there would have been no affirmation of the Father. Matthew 3:16-17 (NLT) says, "After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him. And a voice from heaven said, 'This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.'" Verse 16 KJV says, "And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water." It does not say that John helped Him up. This is significant because Jesus had to go down Himself and He had to come up Himself out of the water. It as a sign of His surrender. Surrender is not a minor point. It represents an ultimate reality. Surrender communicates something eternal, not temporary. Jesus was about to go into public ministry and this process had to take place within the framework of what God had ordained from the foundation of the world. "And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased" (verse 17 KJV). God could never have given His affirmation at the beginning of Jesus' public ministry if His Son had not fulfilled all righteousness. That's what we're dealing with. We're not just dealing with the idea of baptism. We're dealing with the Father's will and Jesus' demonstration that He was fully conscious of the distinction between Himself and Adam. Every aspect of Jesus' life was about full surrender.

What We Get Wrong About Baptism
Jesus gave us an example of baptism the right way it should be done, not the way it is usually done. Baptism represents yieldedness to God. If someone takes you down into the water, you are not fully demonstrating your yieldedness to God. You just need to go down yourself.
Baptism is more than a symbolic ritual; it represents full surrender to God and a personal commitment to follow His will. It signifies dying to self and yielding control, fully aligning yourself with God’s purposes. Jesus modeled this act of obedience through His own baptism, demonstrating its necessity and significance in carrying out God’s plan (Matthew 3:15).
Key Themes:
Baptism as Surrender: A declaration of yielding your life to God, “Not my will, but Yours be done” (Matthew 6:10). We are buried with Him in baptism (Romans 6:4). This act is both symbolic and deeply personal, representing death to self and rebirth in Christ.
Empowerment by the Holy Spirit: Beyond water baptism, the baptism of the Holy Spirit empowers believers to live out God’s Word and fulfill their ministry. Acts 1:8 reminds us of the power of our witness as the Holy Spirit gives us the ability to live as martyrs.
Misunderstandings of Baptism: Many approach baptism as a tradition rather than a heartfelt act of obedience. Without true surrender, it lacks the transformative impact it’s meant to embody.
Daily Commitment: Yieldedness is not a one-time event but a daily decision to yield to God and live as His ambassador on earth, continually realigning priorities to His will when you are tempted to stray. Paul said, “To will is present with me” (Romans 7:18).
Call to Action:
If baptism feels like a formality or was done without full understanding of its depth, now is the time to reflect and commit fully. Seek guidance from spiritual leaders, pray about areas where surrender is needed, and invite the Holy Spirit to empower you. Baptism is the starting point of living a surrendered, purpose-filled life in Christ.

Why Jesus Rebuked John the Baptist

Why Jesus Rebuked John the Baptist.
Did you know even John the Baptist, a messenger anointed by God, could miss someone’s destiny? When Jesus approached John to be baptized, John tried to stop Him, saying, "I am the one who needs to be baptized by You!" (Matthew 3:14 NLT). But Jesus had to rebuke him, explaining, “It should be done, for we must carry out all that God requires” (Matthew 3:15 NLT).
This moment is an important lesson for all of us. Even godly people with the best intentions might not fully understand the path God has for you. That’s why it’s crucial to hear God’s voice for yourself and know the difference between being influenced by others and being directed by God.
Jesus loved John the Baptist, but He didn’t let that love override His obedience to the will of His Father. That same principle applies to your life. Do you know your assignment? Are you following God’s will, or are you swayed by others’ opinions?

Could God Name a Gospel After You?
The first four books in the New Testament are Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. This week I have been taking you through the first and last statements that Jesus made in each of those books as recorded by the authors. The words are in red. There were other disciples who did not have a book named after them, but these were canonized. Some of Paul’s books were canonized as part of the Bibles we read today.
All four Gospels have words that Jesus said, which are usually in the Bible in red. They also have words in black print about how Jesus interacted with people and worked through people to become like Him. The greatest privilege Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John had was being a disciple of Jesus Christ. The greatest responsibility they had was being allowed to disciple others to follow their example.

Do You Have Any Disciples?

Do You Have any Disciples?
Jesus said to make disciples of nations. Mark 3:13 says, “Afterward Jesus went up on a mountain and called out the ones he wanted to go with him. And they came to him.” These men were sovereignly both born into the world and now sovereignly given an assignment by the Creator of the world. What did they look like after following Him for three and a half years?
Think about that as an individual. What if God gave you one person who would imitate you day and night? Maybe they would not use the same words as you do, but they would copy your actions every day. What would that one disciple look like?
Of course, what is even more important is to teach people your principles. Mark 3:14-15 (NLT) says, “Then he appointed twelve of them and called them his apostles. They were to accompany him, and he would send them out to preach, giving them authority to cast out demons.”
Jesus’ disciples had to lay down everything they had going in their own priorities and take up Jesus’ priorities. They followed Jesus for three and a half years looking at His life. If they lived with you, would you be a godly person to follow? The most important thing that Jesus gave His disciples was His principles. Are you principally a person who lives by every Word that proceeds out of the mouth of God? A principle is a fixed value. It should emanate from God Himself. A process is how you work it out.
Give honor to those who discipled you and are still living godly lives by asking them questions about critical decisions you must make. Not everybody yielded to Moses’ leadership, even though it was clear that he was hearing from God. One man's relationship with God led them out of the bondage of the strongest nation in that day. I believe that my prayers for people will be like the cloud that led Israel by day and the fire by night. That includes politicians. I respect their assignment if they seem to be yielding to God in it. I am not going to hate them. I will pray for them as God leads me.

Christlike Passion to Finish Well

Christlike Passion to Finish Well.
Almost every day I'm amazed about what I don't know about God the Father, our Savior Jesus Christ, the work of the Holy Ghost, and my being born from the heavens. And of course, then the body of Christ, the church, and individual people living this life.
I don't know if you've ever done this before but I looked in the Gospels to find the first thing recorded that Jesus said and the last thing He said. I guess you could call it read the red. God told Moses He is called the “ I Am.” He has no beginning or end. He is everlasting. That means I am everlasting if I am a child of God. He was talking about the nature of the eternal.
You can’t interpret the Bible with your human understanding. You can’t explain it from the time and space realm. Jesus was always talking about the eternal.
Today some people on our prayer line were talking about grieving. I can understand that because my wife died three years ago, but God reminded me to have a heavenly viewpoint about her death. Many people have a human perspective of eternity, not an eternal perspective of humanity.
Jesus as the Son of God knew eternal life, but he had to experience death for us. He kept His passion to die for us all the way to the cross because the essence of Jesus is love, Spirit, fire, light, and holiness. He humbled Himself even unto death. He had a passion to carry out all that God required.
Not everyone who is born again has the same passion to walk it out. We have all known people who had passion for a time but it didn’t last. Jesus’ passion lasted. It required decision-making. He had to do what Adam should have done. It required domination of the powers of darkness. He walked in authority. He had determined not to fall or fail. He had the ability to carry out the will of God and never violate what God told Him to do.
God’s standards for us and for Jesus are not suggestions. Once you know your calling, it takes passion to walk it out. I can think of a couple of athletes who seem to keep their passion for winning, LeBron James and Tiger Woods. They not only have skill but also passion.
Don’t allow your passion to diminish by something like grieving or holding on to unforgiveness for offenses. Think like an eternal being. Live like Jesus. Keep your Christlike passion.

Stop Just Using God for Your Stuff

Stop Just Using God for Your Stuff.
I'm trying to give you some treasuries from the realm of the eternal because if you don't focus on the eternal, the devil will make sure you focus on your needs, your circumstances, and the things that are going on in the natural world. All of the real battles that relate to you and God are fought in the invisible world. I'm not holding back on you anymore. I'm telling you that you have to stop just using God for stuff. God wants to make YOU to be the stuff of heaven. You are the only thing that will withstand the fires of God's presence in the great day. Everything else is going to be burned. You just saw an example of all the stuff that burned in the Los Angeles fires. Think about how much greater destruction will come in the fires of judgment. No house is going to withstand it. No jewelry, no money, not even the elements. Pay attention to the eternal! Your real life exists in that invisible realm. You're the only stuff that matters to God. You are made in the image of God and if you are born again and you live for God you exist for the next world. You exist for God. The wicked dead will exist without God in the lake of fire, but you are ordained to live forever and occupy another realm and hold some responsibilities. Jesus showed us through Elijah and Moses on the mount of transfiguration that He’s the God of the living, not of the dead. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are all living right now. You are living in the eternal life realm now, so stop just using God for your stuff and focus on yielding everything to Him.

The Power of Eternal Vision

The Power of Eternal Vision.
Don't you think God is excited about your commitment to him? Don't you think He wants to demonstrate his power through you? When you take a step out in faith where it looks like nothing is happening, but you take that step, you are walking by faith, not by sight. In the natural, it doesn’t look like this is going to work, but you take this step out anyway. That's what you do when you have a vision for something. Anyone who starts a company from scratch has no guarantee that company is going to succeed, but you take that step out anyway. That's what you do when you have vision.I know Christians who think they can do things that do not tend to holiness. They push the limits by drinking, smoking, watching things that glamorize sin. However, Paul says many things are lawful for me, but many things are not expedient. Do you hang around the categories of what you CAN do as opposed to what you SHOULD do? Or do you try to set the highest standard of godliness because you have a vision for the impossible? When you have a vision for eternity, your whole outlook changes. All you want is God. You want to be like God. In reality, God would love to have us sacrifice any earthly pleasure for eternal responsibility.

Expect Something Amazing!
There is no explanation for what has happened in my life other than that God did it. Some people said, “I don’t like Black people,” and I spoke in mostly White environments. I am from the ghetto, but I have authored several books with major publishers and my teachings are archived in the Regent University Library. This is you, when God is with you. You can go to nations. There is a seed of amazement in you right now. Go ahead and fulfill that amazement in Jesus.
"Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think."--Ephesians 3:20 NLT
